Case Study

The Modern China Archives and Special Collections Booklet

Client:

Hoover Institution Archives and Library

Background:

The Hoover Institution Archives agreed to help preserve the historical records of the Nationalist Party of the Republic of China and ultimately received significant donations of political papers from important families of Taiwan.

Challenge:

Create a 24-page booklet that would serve as a commemorative piece and event centerpiece while explaining what the Modern China Archives is.

Solution:

We designed a booklet that featured photos and documents from the archives. Although initially considered prosaic, the documents themselves, many of which are handwritten diary entries, are visually compelling and reflect the immediacy and intimacy of these documents.

Results:

The booklet was a hit with the families donating the papers who were honored at a special luncheon; our client wrote a very generous testimonial on our behalf, highlighting the “high quality” result and how quickly we got the final design to them.
